How Artec 3D is supporting Ukraine

Changes of technical specs for Eva

Here is a bit of news for our technically-savvy customers -- Artec is officially changing a couple of key technical specifications for Eva, Artec's flagship 3D scanner. The two specs that are being changed are "points captured per second" and "accuracy over distance".

Points captured per second

Previously, we stated that Eva captured up to 288,000 points per second. This is the number of points you capture when you use default settings in Artec Studio which provide for a perfect balance of performance and time-efficiency during post-processing. That being said, there is a way to drastically increase the number of points you capture by changing these default settings in Artec Studio. To receive up to 2,000,000 points per second, go to Settings, Algorithms, uncheck "use default realtime settings" and change the value of "Triangle Step" from 6 to 1. We don’t recommend changing these settings because this will noticeably increase post-processing time and decrease the number of frames captured per second, but if you need to capture more data quicker, this is the way to go.

Accuracy over distance

Recently, we've written about a new temperature adjustment algorithm that we included in the latest version of Artec Studio. In short, the more time the scanner is on, the less accurate it becomes. This is true for all 3D scanners on the market and it is so because as the scanner heats up, it ever-so-slightly affects all the internal components, which in turn, affect the accuracy of the resulting scans. Artec and other 3D scanner manufacturers provide accuracy specifications based on testing done while the hardware is "cool". This accuracy is almost never attainable once the scanner heats up. This is why we have developed a temperature adjustment algorithm. It takes into account the expanding components and corrects the error through software. After extensive testing, using the VDI/VDE 2634 (Part 3) internationally-accepted measurement method, we are ready to officially change the "accuracy over distance" specification to 0.03 over 100cm. This is a five-fold improvement over the previous spec. So this temperature algorithm not only significantly improved the accuracy of Eva, but is also able to sustain this accuracy through hours of scanning.
