Semi-trailer truck
How do you digitize a huge object in full without compromising on detail? Answer: the workflow behind this beautifully textured scan. Capturing the wider vehicle with the rapid 2 mln pts/s, long-range Ray II, then scanning its more complex areas with the wireless handheld Leo allowed it to be turned into a 3D model with unprecedented detail.
Rotate the model above and take a look. Everything from mirrors to roof elements and the truck’s bright colors have been faithfully captured. When it came to scanning underneath the vehicle, as well as parts hidden between cab and trailer, Leo’s portability and built-in display were game changers, simplifying an otherwise extremely difficult task.
With Artec Studio, you can even combine data captured from multiple different scanners in a single click. Moving forward, this functionality promises to unlock unique multi-resolution scanning possibilities. In this case, the truck mesh was sent from Artec Studio to Airshaper’s simulation platform with minimal editing and used to identify aerodynamic opportunities.
So detailed were the scans, Airshaper was able to carry out ‘part-by-part force analysis,’ and recommend fuel-saving spoiler, roof, and mirror changes. Why not rotate the model above and check out the finer details of this stunning multi-resolution scan for yourself!
