The work of an engineer is complex, but scanning parts like these doesn’t have to be. This BMW manifold is a shiny piece of metal, with a lot of holes and hard-to-reach areas. Most scanners would require targets and even then, might still struggle to accurately capture an object like this. With Artec Leo, this was done in just two scans and in 10 minutes flat.
Scanned from above and flipping the manifold to capture both the top and bottom, the scene required hardly any preparation: the manifold was simply perched on a roll of tape to raise it slightly off the ground and give Leo’s base removal algorithm less to do.
HD reconstruction took five minutes, and processing in Artec Studio, twenty. From start to finish, the whole process took just over half an hour. Take a closer look and look at how incredibly detailed the final model is – with excellent geometry, it is ready for quality control, reverse engineering, design, and a host of other use cases that may require such a model.
