Shiny parts and repetitive patterns might seem like an obvious challenge for many, and rightfully so – they’re two of the most common obstacles one might face when working with 3D scanners. But with the 2022 Artec Leo, this axle shaft was captured in fine detail in just 10 minutes, thanks to the combination of Leo’s new technology and a few simple supporting accessories. As there were shiny surfaces throughout the part, a matting spray was used to allow quick and thorough scanning of all sides.
Another potential issue that was swiftly circumvented: the repetitive pattern. The same shape on all sides with continuous lines and ridges might mean you couldn’t tell one side from the other, but there was no confusion with the use of some targets that were pasted onto the object – this sorted out alignment and Global Registration right away.
Have a look around this seemingly simple but quietly complex shaft, and you’ll notice that every fine detail and sharp edge has been thoroughly captured, and in high definition, too. Give it a spin and you’ll be able to appreciate all of 2022 Artec Leo’s features that made this possible: power, accuracy, and a dedication to leaving no detail left behind.
