To scan this beautiful jungle-inspired accent chair, we paired Artec Leo with a DSLR camera to get the best possible results for texture and geometry. To achieve these results, we first scanned the upper part of the chair and its legs, and then took photos of the chair following the same route. Then, we turned the chair upside down and scanned the lower part with Leo, before using the camera. Both times, we used autofocus and fixed ISO for all the photos taken, and no additional lighting sources were used – only the room’s natural light.
After that, we loaded all the data from the scanner and the camera to Artec Studio for processing. Each scan was first registered separately to exclude any errors, and then all scans were registered between each other to create a mesh file. Both packs of photos that were taken during scanning were then registered using texture frames collected by the scanner to create a texture file. Finally, the texture was mapped to the mesh, using AS17’s texturing algorithm. As you can see, the final model looks crisp and vibrant, and could be used for virtual try-on in an online store, or as a nice add-on for a virtual room tour, or a prop in a computer game.
